Great food has always been a part of Juan’s life. At the tender age of 7, while his peers were busy running around the yard, Juan found his place right beside his grandmother in the kitchen and beside his dad at the grill. These two people played an important role not only in the evolution of Juan’s culinary technique, but also his holistic philosophy on food.
While his father taught him the beauty of the cooking process, Juan’s grandmother imparted her culinary knowledge about seasoning foods and pairing them with certain ingredients to bring out strong flavor profiles. Most importantly, they both taught him the importance of imbuing love in the food he puts out for others.
At the age of 17, Juan knew his interest was in the culinary scene and seeked out a position at the local diner. In a short span of time, he worked his way up to a cook and eventually was tasked to manage the kitchen. Soon, the kitchen became too small for his culinary dreams and Juan knew he had to strike out on his own.
Reaching out to a childhood friend who had experience working at high-end restaurants, Juan began to refine his culinary skills through experimentation and dedication. After some time, they both co-founded a catering company in 2004 that quickly gained success and gave him invaluable experience in servicing many different types of events such as wineries, festivals, weddings, bridal showers, and graduation parties to name a few.
With Cater THIS!, Juan wishes to share his personal culinary vision with the rest of the world. Combining traditional techniques with modern innovation, Juan is reinventing Mexican cuisine and aiming to please even the pickiest of palates.
